Athadu, the 2005 action-family drama starring Mahesh Babu and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, is making waves again nearly 20 years after its release. The film, widely considered a cult classic, is all set for a grand re-release in Super 4K and Dolby Atmos on August 9, 2025, just in time for Mahesh Babu’s birthday celebrations.
In a recent media interaction, producer Murali Mohan sparked excitement by addressing long-standing speculation about a possible sequel. He stated,
“If a sequel is ever made, it will only be with Mahesh Babu garu and Trivikram garu.”
This single comment has ignited fresh hopes among fans, who have cherished the film for its gripping story, sharp dialogues, and memorable characters.
Murali Mohan also clarified two major rumors: first, that Pawan Kalyan was never approached for Athadu, and second, that legendary actor Sobhan Babu turned down the grandfather’s role—later portrayed by Nasser—as he preferred to be remembered as a lead actor.
With Trisha, Sonu Sood, and Nasser in pivotal roles and Mani Sharma’s evergreen soundtrack still resonating with fans, Athadu remains a timeless favorite. The upcoming re-release is expected to be a nostalgic celebration for Mahesh Babu fans worldwide.
