Balapur Ganesh Laddu Sets Auction Record:
The renowned Balapur Ganesh ‘laddu’ prasadam auction achieved a remarkable milestone, garnering an unprecedented Rs. 27 lakhs on Thursday. This marks the highest amount collected in the past 29 years, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of this tradition. The coveted ‘golden laddu’ found a winning bidder in Dasari Dayanand Reddy from Turkenjal.
In the 2022 auction, Vengeti Laxma Reddy, representing VLR Builders, acquired the laddu for Rs. 24.60 lakhs. A total of 36 participants, including individuals from various parts of the state, enthusiastically engaged in the bidding process.
The tradition of auctioning this special laddu has continued uninterrupted since its inception in 1994, steadily growing in significance year after year. During its inaugural auction in 1994, Kolam Mohan Reddy secured the laddu for a mere Rs. 450. Business leaders, politicians, and prominent figures from all walks of life eagerly participate in this annual auction, as it is believed to bestow prosperity upon the fortunate winner.
The only exception to this tradition was during the COVID-19 pandemic when lockdown restrictions led to the cancellation of the auction. In that year, the Laddu was presented to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao as a gift.
The Balapur Ganesh ‘laddu’ auction has become one of the most popular televised events, capturing the attention of viewers across the nation.
