South Korea’s Supreme Court is under bomb threat
South Korean authorities are investigating a string of email bomb threats, including one sent from Japan, targeting the Supreme Court and other locations. The threat claimed that bombs with needles were planted at the Japanese Embassy, the Supreme Court, and city halls across South Korea, set to detonate during a specific timeframe. However, upon searching the locations, no explosives were found.
The email was purportedly sent by a Japanese law firm, using the same address as previous threats. The sender, Takahiro Karasawa, an incumbent lawyer in Japan, denied involvement and suggested his name was being misused.
South Korean police are seeking cooperation from Japanese authorities, as similar phishing scams involving law firms or lawyers’ email accounts have been prevalent in Japan. These threats have caused disruptions and prompted police investigations, but no explosives have been discovered so far.
