The inaugural meeting of the ‘One Nation One Election’ committee, established to examine the policy, is scheduled for Wednesday, with former President Ram Nath Kovind chairing the gathering, as per sources, the meeting is set to take place at a residence in the national capital.

The Union Law Ministry appointed eight committee members on Saturday, with former President Ram Nath Kovind serving as its chair. The committee’s task is to assess the feasibility of concurrent elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats.

However, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, initially named a member of the High-Level Committee (HLC) established by the Centre, has declined to participate, citing concerns that its “terms of reference have been framed to predetermine its conclusions.”
