Interestingly, the ASCI’s (Advertising Standards Council of India) Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) appraised the complaints in regard to the TV commercial at the instance of Maharashtra State Commission for Women, reports stated.
Very soon we can see the condom ads airing only during the watershed hours which is between 10 pm and 6 am on television after ASCI, the apex self-regulating body of advertising sector, received numerous complaints regarding a steamy condom commercial which highlighted actor Sunny Leone.
Upon receiving an innumerable number of complaints the ASCI, in a letter to the Union information and broadcasting ministry, specified that “we are here suggesting that the ministry advice all television channels to ensure that the condom ads are aired between 10 pm and 6 am as these advertisements are meant only to be seen by adults”.
Unfortunately, the ASCI reviewed only after the interference from Maharashtra State Commission for Women, reports state. When asked about the process, the ASCI Secretary General Shweta Purandare told as a self-regulatory body we cannot issue a directive to private companies, but only can seek the advice of the Union I&B ministry in the matter, she concluded.
