Controversy Hits ‘Kannappa’ After Brahmin Community Reacts to Viral Poster Featuring Saptagiri & Brahmanandam

Date:

Kannappa, the highly anticipated mythological drama starring Vishnu Manchu, has landed in controversy yet again. While the film has been generating buzz for its grand visuals and ensemble cast, the newly released poster featuring comedians Saptagiri and Brahmanandam has unexpectedly drawn sharp criticism from members of the Brahmin community.

The poster showcases Saptagiri in a humorous get-up alongside Brahmanandam’s character, Pilaka Gilaka, who was already introduced in earlier promos. While the intention was seemingly light-hearted and aimed at providing comic relief, some community members found the portrayal stereotypical and disrespectful, particularly in the context of a film with strong religious and cultural undertones.

Social media platforms quickly picked up the backlash, with several users and community leaders expressing their dissatisfaction over what they termed a “misrepresentation of cultural identities.” The controversy has reignited ongoing debates around the balance between humor and cultural sensitivity in Indian cinema, especially in mythological narratives.

Despite the criticism, the makers of Kannappa have not yet issued an official response. However, sources suggest that the production team may soon address the concerns to avoid any escalation.

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa features Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Shiva Rajkumar in key roles, alongside Vishnu Manchu. The film is inspired by the legendary tale of the Shaivite devotee Kannappa and is one of the most ambitious projects currently in Tollywood.

As the film inches closer to its release, all eyes are on how the team handles the rising tension and whether they make any changes to appease critics.
