In a major milestone, Prathyangira Cinemas has acquired the North America theatrical rights of the film for a staggering ₹30 crore Minimum Guarantee (MG)—the highest ever for a Tamil film in the region.
Coolie Surpasses Leo’s Record by a Huge Margin
With this deal, Coolie comfortably beats the previous record held by Leo, which was sold for ₹18 crore MG. The ₹12 crore jump highlights the unmatched overseas demand for Rajinikanth, especially across the US and Canada, where his popularity continues to soar.
What Is a Minimum Guarantee (MG)?
An MG deal involves the distributor paying the producer a fixed amount upfront. Whether the film performs or not, the producer is assured of this revenue. If the film surpasses the MG collection, profits are shared between the distributor and producer as per prior agreement.
Massive Global Demand
The excitement doesn’t stop in North America. The entire overseas theatrical rights have been sold to Hamsini Entertainment for a whopping ₹85 crore, reaffirming the film’s massive pre-release buzz and global reach.
