The delivery agent was injured by a pet dog
A delivery agent in Hyderabad was injured when he jumped off the third floor of a building to escape a pet dog belonging to a customer. The incident took place in Manikonda’s Panchavati Colony on Sunday. The Labrador dog, which was unleashed at the time, started barking and running toward the delivery agent, identified as Mohammed Ilyas, who works for Amazon.
In fear, Ilyas leaped from the third floor, resulting in multiple fractures when he landed on the sidewall of the building. He was rushed to a hospital where he is currently in stable condition. The police recorded Ilyas’s statement and filed a case against the flat owner under section 289 of the Indian Penal Code for negligent conduct with respect to the animal.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) president, Shaik Salahuddin, demanded that the dog owner bear the expenses of the delivery agent’s treatment. This incident marks the second occurrence of a delivery agent being injured by a pet dog in Hyderabad within four months. In January, a 23-year-old food delivery boy tragically lost his life after jumping off the third floor of a building to escape a similar dog attack.
The TGPWU has called upon dog owners to keep their pets restrained when they arrive to deliver orders. Additionally, the union has urged Amazon to provide wages to Ilyas during his treatment, amounting to Rs 1,000 per day, as his injuries were sustained while he was performing his duty. Salahuddin has requested municipal administration minister K. T. Rama Rao and Greater Hyderabad Mayor Vijayalakshmi Gadwal to take action against dog owners in such cases.
