In light of the latest developments in the Telugu film industry, the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh issued strict guidelines regarding cinema operations. Addressing the ongoing debate on the movie ticket price hike, the coalition government made it clear that any proposal for ticket rate revision must first be routed through the Film Chamber before reaching the government, even if it concerns a film of Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan himself.
An investigation has been launched to identify those responsible for the recent theatre shutdowns. Pawan Kalyan took a firm stance, stating that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone, including members of his own party, Jana Sena, if they are found causing disruptions. In a move to uphold his commitment, he suspended Rajahmundry Jana Sena in-charge, Athhi Satyanarayana, for allegedly being involved in theatre closures.
The Deputy CM has also instructed officials to conduct regular checks on food and beverage quality in theatres and take strict action if standards are not met. The government believes that overpriced snacks and drinks are another key factor keeping audiences away from theatres.
As part of the upcoming ‘Comprehensive Film Development Policy’ by the Andhra Pradesh Government, suggestions from major film industry bodies like the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, Producers’ Council, Movie Artists Association, and Directors’ Association will be invited to help shape a robust growth plan for the Telugu film sector.
