Dhanush Opens Up on Playing a Beggar in Kuberaa: “Sekhar Kammula Made It Seamless”
With Tollywood experiencing a dry spell and several single-screen theaters temporarily closing their doors, all hopes are pinned on the upcoming social drama Kuberaa. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sekhar Kammula, the film is slated for release on June 20, and it carries the potential to reinvigorate the theatrical moviegoing experience.
Starring Dhanush, King Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, Kuberaa explores emotional and societal themes and has been generating solid pre-release buzz. During a promotional event for the film’s third single, Pippi Pippi Dum Dum Dum, held in Mumbai, Dhanush spoke candidly about his unusual role.
“I play a beggar in this film, and many people think I went through intense preparation, like standing in the sun or shadowing real-life beggars,” Dhanush said with a laugh. “But the truth is far simpler—I just followed Sekhar sir’s instructions.”
The national award-winning actor praised director Sekhar Kammula’s vision and guidance. “He walked me through every nuance—even the dialect. He made everything so easy. Kuberaa is more than just a film; it’s special. I don’t usually attend many promotional events, but I felt this film truly deserved it.”
With just days left before its theatrical debut, Kuberaa is shaping up to be one of Tollywood’s most anticipated releases of the season.
