Dasara Box Office War: Dhanush’s Idli Kadai to Face Kantara: Chapter 1 and OG
The upcoming Dasara season is shaping up to be one of the most intense in recent memory, with several heavyweight films lining up for release. While most producers are avoiding a direct clash with the highly anticipated Kantara: Chapter 1, one star who isn’t stepping aside is Dhanush.
The actor-director has locked October 1 for the release of his new directorial venture Idli Kadai. The move is seen as bold, given that Kantara: Chapter 1—a prequel carrying massive buzz, particularly in Karnataka and the Telugu states—arrives just a day later on October 2.
Complicating matters further, Pawan Kalyan’s OG hits screens a week earlier. With record ticket pricing and sky-high demand, OG is expected to dominate theatres for at least two weeks, making it harder for smaller films to secure screen space in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Idli Kadai will therefore need to fight for visibility both in Telugu states and in Karnataka, where Kantara is projected to rewrite box office records.
In Tamil Nadu, however, the situation looks more favorable. With distribution handled by Red Giant Films under Udhayanidhi Stalin, Idli Kadai is assured a wide release across the state without major competition. The bigger challenge lies outside Tamil Nadu, where the box office is crowded and audience attention is divided.
Adding to the congestion, Bollywood will also weigh in with Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, releasing on October 2. With multiple big-ticket films battling for dominance, this Dasara season is set to be a true test of Dhanush’s confidence and whether Idli Kadai’s emotional drama can hold its own amid the storm.
