Yash’s Toxic made a powerful start at the box office, recording massive numbers on its opening day and reportedly heading towards the Rs. 100 crore mark worldwide. Despite the strong opening, the film has received a mixed response from audiences, with criticism directed at its screenplay, lengthy runtime and limited emotional impact.
Amid the ongoing discussion around the film, an interesting point from its pre-release phase has resurfaced on social media. Toxic was initially scheduled to clash at the box office with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2, with both big-budget films targeting the same release date.
However, Toxic was eventually moved away from the clash, avoiding a direct box-office battle with the Ranveer Singh starrer. At the time, the decision attracted considerable attention, with fans and trade circles discussing the potential impact of such a high-profile confrontation.
Could the Clash Have Changed the Narrative?
Following the mixed response to Toxic, several netizens are now suggesting that the postponement may have worked in Yash’s favour. Had both films arrived on the same day, comparisons between their performances, content and box-office numbers would likely have been unavoidable.
The online debate could also have become considerably harsher if Toxic had faced Dhurandhar 2 directly, particularly if the latter received stronger audience appreciation. The resulting comparisons, social-media trolling and box-office analysis could have placed additional pressure on Yash’s film.
That said, Toxic has still managed to register a massive opening, demonstrating the considerable anticipation surrounding Yash’s return to theatres after a long gap. The bigger question now is whether the film can maintain its momentum despite the divided word of mouth.
Ultimately, whether avoiding the clash was a smart move will become clearer once Toxic completes its theatrical run. For now, the discussion has given social media another angle to analyse the film’s box-office journey.
