Recently there was a strong buzz in the film industry that Eesha Rebba, who was seen in Netflix‘s anthology drama, Pitta Kathalu, which also featured Jagapathi Babu, Amala Paul, Ashwin Kakumanu,Lakshmi Manchu, Ashima Narwal, Saanve Megghana, Sanjith Hegde and Shruti Haasan, was ready to make her mark in Gunasekhar’s mythological drama Shaakuntalam in which Samantha Akkineni would play the titular role. According to the sources, Eesha Rebba has rejected Samantha’ movie Shaakuntalam.
It is being heard that Eesha Rebba was not happy with remuneration offered to her and chose not accept the role.Shaakuntalam is a big budget project, which will be directed by Rudhramadevi fame Gunasekhar. While the upcoming mythological drama is based on Kalidasa’s epic Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam, the makers have zeroed in on popular Malayalam star Dev Mohan, who garnered appreciation and accolades for his performance in Sufiyum Sujatayum, which also featured Jayasurya, Aditi Ro Hydari and Siddiqui in the crucial roles.
The pre-production work of Shaakuntalam is underway and efforts are being made to kick-start the shoot in summer. Meanwhile, a Himalayas set is being constructed under the supervision of art director Ashok in Hyderabad. Currently the team is in the hunt of an actor to play the role of Dushyantha.
