Election Commission Sets Telangana Assembly Elections for November 30:
The Telangana State Assembly elections are set to take place on November 30, with the vote count scheduled for December 3. In addition to Telangana, assembly elections in other states are as follows: Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, and Rajasthan on November 23. The counting of votes for all these states will occur on December 3, and the polling process will conclude by December 5.
Here are the key dates for the Telangana elections:
Gazette notification issuance: November 3
Nomination filing deadline: November 10
Nomination scrutiny date: November 13
Nomination withdrawal deadline: November 15
Polling date: November 30
Counting date: December 3
Chhattisgarh will have polling in two phases on November 7 and November 17, while other states will have single-phase polling.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, during a press conference, announced the election schedule and mentioned that the Commission conducted visits and discussions with various departments and political parties in the five poll-bound states. A total of 679 assembly constituencies across these states will go to polls, with over 60 lakh first-time voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years expected to participate. Special provisions, including a “vote from home” facility for senior citizens and individuals with physical disabilities, will be in place. The five states will have 1.77 lakh polling stations equipped with basic amenities such as toilets, drinking water, ramps, and signage.
The term of the Legislative Assembly in Telangana is set to expire on January 16 next year, while the tenures of Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Mizoram assemblies will conclude on January 14, January 3, January 6, and December 17, in that order.
These elections are significant for both the ruling BJP at the national level and the newly formed Opposition INDIA alliance. While the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), led by KCR and not part of the INDIA alliance, is in power in Telangana, the Congress governs Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and the Mizo National Front (MNF) will be in power in Mizoram.
The BRS has already announced its Assembly election candidates, while other parties are still finalizing their candidate lists. BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has renominated all but seven MLAs.
