Andhra to release jobs calendar on Ugadi festival

Andhra Pradesh government will release a calendar schedule to fill vacant posts in the education department on Ugadi festival day.

Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh made this announcement on Friday and it comes on the back of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to come out with a calendar recently.

Meanwhile, Suresh said that the college fees would be credited to the accounts of eligible mothers under the Jagananna Vidya Deevena scheme on April 9, benefiting 10 lakh students.

Similarly, the state government is focusing on improving the educational standards in colleges.

“As per the directions of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, educational standards in colleges in the state will be improved and education will be imparted in such a way that students can get jobs,” said the Education Minister.

In the light of the state government clipping the wings of autonomous colleges, Suresh warned them not to indulge in irregularities and said that appropriate action would be taken otherwise.

According to the minister, there are 109 autonomous colleges in the state under various varsities and it was found that quality education was not being imparted in those educational institutions.

“Some autonomous colleges were indulging in irregularities besides getting subsidies from the government discussions are being held with the UGC regarding autonomous colleges,” he said.

Further clarifying, Suresh noted that education is a concurrent subject upon which the state government can also make laws and highlighted that colleges are free to move the Court in this matter.

He said that academic audits would be conducted in autonomous colleges to usher in reforms in the education sector.

Suresh said that autonomous colleges are barred from compiling their own question papers.

Meanwhile, the state government is looking at initiating an apprentice system for degree courses.

He said Reddy gave instruction to lay special focus on developing Andhra University, S.V. University, RJKUT, JNTU – Anantapur, and JNTU – Kakinada.

No exams till Class 8 for govt school students in UP

For the second consecutive year, examinations up to Class 8 will not be held in Uttar Pradesh government-run schools.

Due to the pandemic conditions, the state government has decided to promote students from Class 8 to the next class without examination. Their assessment will be done on the basis of performance throughout the academic session.

Last year, in 2020, students up to Class 8 were also promoted without examinations, on the basis of internal assessment.

Schools, thereafter, were closed for the next tens due to Covid 19 pandemic.

Studies have been affected for almost the entire academic session and online classes were started in July last year.

Children from economically weaker sections who study in government schools could not take online classes.

Class from 6 to 8 reopened on February 10 and classes from 1 to 5 began on March 1.

Additional Chief Secretary, Education, Renuka Kumar, said, “We are running a 100 day ‘Prerna Gyanotsav’ program for children up to class 8. The students will be assessed on this and promoted to the next class.”

A study of tech job postings on job site Indeed on Friday showed that hiring in tech roles between April 2020 and January 2021 was consistently above pre-pandemic levels, peaking at 17 per cent in November 2020.

Tech job postings in India were up 13 percent in January 2021 from a year ago, showed the data from Indeed.

“This is reflected in our data, which shows a steady upward shift. We believe that digitization and ‘virtual’ operations will continue to increase in the near future, creating a strong demand for tech-related jobs across sectors.”

The site revealed that top-paying tech roles in India in 2020-2021 are software architect, technical lead, cloud engineer, senior software engineer, and full-stack developer.

The top fastest-rising tech jobs in India include application developer, IT security specialist, salesforce developer, site reliability engineer, and cloud engineer, among others.

Educational institutions to open in B’desh from March 30

The Bangladeshi government has announced the reopening of all the schools and colleges in the country from March 30.

The country’s Education Minister Dipu Moni made the announcement after a high-level meeting on Saturday night. The minister said school and college students will attend classes in person initially.

Students of junior classes will resume their academic activates in phases later, she added.

Last week Moni announced that universities will reopen on May 24, the Xinhua news reported.

The closure of educational institutions nationwide ordered by the government started on March 17 last year as part of the country’s efforts to halt the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The closure has been extended repeatedly and the latest extension was from February 14 to 28 in a bid to contain the spread of the virus in the current cold weather.

More Indians turn entrepreneurs as job market still bleak

While the job market still looks bleak in India after a pandemic-hit 2020, the world’s professional network LinkedIn said on Wednesday it has seen a 10 percent growth in members with the title ‘founders’ or ‘co-founder’ on their profiles on the platform.

Entrepreneurship looked up for Indian professionals last year.

“This uptick in new entrepreneurs was particularly strong in the fields of mental healthcare, e-learning, and online media,” according to the latest LinkedIn ‘Workforce Confidence Index’.

“Skills are expected to become the new professional ‘currency’ this year as workers from different generations rely on learning new skills to future-proof their careers, at a time when industries continue to strengthen their remote operations,” said Ashutosh Gupta, India Country Manager, LinkedIn.

“Reimagining employee skills and roles to welcome the post-pandemic ways of working will be crucial to building resilience for companies across sectors,” Gupta added.

Based on the survey responses of 1,752 professionals, findings from January 1-29 revealed that professionals in India are confident about career progress despite growing uncertainties about the job market and financial future in the current environment.

Nearly 80 per cent of professionals are confident about skilling opportunities, while 79 per cent are confident about the strength of their CVs.

However, the survey showed a dip in India’s overall confidence.

The survey attributes this dip in optimism to the workforce’s growing concerns about the status of the pandemic, surmounting expenses, and job availability in the present economic climate.

This professional uncertainty comes right after the year-end holiday season, when India’s hiring rate dropped to 17 percent year-over-year in December 2020, according to the latest edition of LinkedIn’s Labour Market update.

The survey showed that while India remains resilient, professionals from different generations have contrasting reasons to stay confident in these testing times.

While 92 per cent of Gen X and 98 per cent of Baby Boomers say the strength of their work experience and academic qualifications makes them more confident, 86 per cent of millennials state they are more inspired by opportunities to grow their skills and climb the ladder.

Further, 80 per cent of Gen Z professionals said that the likelihood of progressing their careers makes them more confident today, said the survey.
