Fahadh Faasil Was Almost in Coolie—Lokesh Kanagaraj Opens Up on Missed Collaboration

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has joined hands with Superstar Rajinikanth for the first time in the upcoming film Coolie, recently revealed that Fahadh Faasil was initially considered for a key role in the movie. In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Lokesh shared some behind-the-scenes details that fans of both stars will find intriguing.

According to Lokesh, the character currently played by Soubin Shahir was originally written with Fahadh Faasil in mind. The director reportedly spent over six months developing the role and even approached Fahadh for the part. However, due to prior commitments, the Pushpa star couldn’t accommodate the project, leading Lokesh to cast Soubin, who is now making waves with his appearance in the hit song “Monica”, alongside Pooja Hegde.

While the Coolie collaboration didn’t work out, Fahadh and Rajinikanth previously shared screen space in the much-awaited upcoming film Vettaiyan.

Coolie is set for a theatrical release on August 14, 2025, and boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Upendra, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. Produced by Sun Pictures and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film is expected to be a mass entertainer with Lokesh’s trademark storytelling style.
