First pregnant woman Died Due to Covid-19

A 30-year-old woman who hailed from Nallasopara died at Nair Hospital in Mumbai on April 4. She was pregnant at the time she died. She may have died of coronavirus, making her the first in India to die during her pregnancy.

Doctors said they were unable to save the baby which had died in the womb itself before she was taken to the hospital.

The woman was suffering from others respiratory complications as well. She was referred to Nair Hospital by a local hospital in Nallasopara after her condition deteriorated.

A committee is expected to review the case and later announce the exact cause of death while doctors suspect she died of Covid-19. The woman’s husband has been kept under quarantine and his reports are awaited.

On Tuesday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra went up to 891. Ten new cases were reported in Mumbai, 4 in Pune, 3 in Ahmednagar, 2 in Nagpur and Buldhana, 1 each in Thane and Sangli.

Maharashtra has reported the most coronavirus deaths at 45, followed by Gujarat at 12, Madhya Pradesh nine, Telangana and Delhi seven each, Punjab six and Tamil Nadu five fatalities.
