Fresh cases of the novel corona virus disease

In highest single-day spike of over 17,000 cases of coronavirus in India took the country’s case tally to 4,90,401 on Friday morning. While India saw 17,296 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus disease on Friday, the death toll crossed the 15,000-mark with 407 fatalities on Friday.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s overall case tally reached 4,90,401 on Friday. The total case count includes 1,89,463 active cases of coronavirus in the country, while 2,85,637 patients have recovered.

Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases at 1,47,741 followed by Delhi at 73,780, Tamil Nadu at 70,977, Gujarat at 29,520, Uttar Pradesh at 20,193, Rajasthan at 16,296 and West Bengal at 15,648, according to ministry data.

Friday was the seventh consecutive day when coronavirus cases increased by more than 14,000. On June 20, the country registered an increase of 14,516 cases. On June 21, the increase was of 15,413 cases; 14,821 cases on June 22; 14,933 cases on June 23; 15,968 cases on June 24, and 14,894 cases on June 25.

The recovery rate, however, has improved to over 58 percent, as per the figures by the Union Health Ministry.

India had on Thursday also registered its biggest single-day increase of 16,922 coronavirus infections, which pushed the overall tally to 4.73 lakh. The number of fatalities in India, meanwhile, stood at 14,894.
