Gambhir’s tweet on ‘Jana Gana Mana’ breaks twitter into two!
Known for being very vocal Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who always took active participation in expressing his viewpoint is in the news all over again.
“Standing and waiting outside a club: 20 mins. Standing and waiting outside favorite restaurant 30 mins.Standing for national anthem: 52 secs. Tough?” Gambhir tweeted.
In November 2016, the Supreme Court had directed the movie halls all over the country to compulsorily play National Anthem before the screening the movie. The primary reason is to instill the feeling of nationalism and patriotism among the public. The order further read, ‘the public should stand-up to show their respect to the National Anthem.”
The order grabbed a lot of criticism. Few stated that patriotism cannot be forced. Instances of violence against people who refused to stand up for National Anthem in theatres also surfaced.Gambhir though strongly came in support of this, expressed his wonder at how tough it was to stand for the National Anthem for less than a minute. He particularly questioned those, who raised objections are willing to stand in long queues outside restaurants and clubs but do not have similar patience or passion for doing the same when National Anthem being played.
As soon as he shared his tweet, many users bombarded the micro-blogging website. Some agreed with the cricketer’s views and while others argued against it.
