Brett Lee praised Gill for his performance
Virat Kohli achieved several records during his second consecutive century in the IPL 2023 match against Gujarat Titans at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday night. However, despite Kohli’s outstanding performance, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) failed to qualify for the playoffs as Shubman Gill, the opener for Gujarat Titans, played a crucial role in leading his team to a six-wicket victory with five balls remaining.
Gill matched Kohli shot for shot and maintained a better strike rate, which proved to be significant in his team’s successful chase. He received valuable support from Vijay Shankar, who played an impactful inning of 53 runs off 35 balls, including seven boundaries and a couple of sixes.
RCB’s loss meant that Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a playoff spot by finishing fourth on the table with 16 points after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the day. RCB, on the other hand, finished sixth in the tournament with 14 points, behind Rajasthan Royals.
Gujarat Titans, who topped the table with 20 points, will face Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1, while MI will compete against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator.
Brett Lee, an expert commentator for JioCinema IPL, praised Gill for his performance, particularly his ability to hit sixes. Gill and Shankar’s partnership of 123 runs off 71 balls was highlighted as a game-changing moment by Lee, acknowledging their excellent batting skills.
Another JioCinema IPL expert, Anil Kumble, commended Kohli’s century, noting his passion and hunger for the game. Kumble emphasized that Kohli’s innings were crucial for RCB, especially since other batsmen struggled. Despite the pressure and responsibility, Kohli delivered a great century according to Kumble.
