Global chess body FIDE recognises new AICF’s new office bearers

Date:

The global chess body FIDE has recognized the new office bearers of All India Chess Federation (AICF) by updating its official page.

Last year FIDE had taken down the list of office-bearers of AICF following a court order nullifying the latter’s election of office-bearers.

FIDE had then added a note on the AICF page on its website: “The dispute between two parties remains under the review of the competent national organ.”

This year the elections for AICF office bearers were held on January 4 and a new team was elected.

“Steps are being taken so that the Federation is back on the rails. The Election Officer appointed by the Madras High Court has submitted his report to the court. A signed copy of the election papers was given to us. We have also sent the papers to FIDE, the global chess body to recognize the new team at the helm,” Sanjay K. Chadha, Legal Counsel for Bharat Singh Chauhan who was re-elected as AICF Secretary told IANS.

“Former President P.R. Venketrama Raja had also written to FIDE about the election results. There were no hurdles in our assuming office,” Chauhan told IANS.

Now the FIDE website lists the names and pictures of AICF President Sanjay Kapoor, Secretary Chauhan, and Treasurer Naresh Sharma. The new office-bearers will hold posts till 2023.
