RCB Women Triumph in WPL 2024 Final, Marking Historic Victory

Date:

Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their much-awaited victory by claiming the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 title. While the men’s team is yet to clinch the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, the women’s team achieved glory in just their second season of the Women’s Premier League. Following their triumph over the Delhi Capitals in the final, former owner of the men’s team, Vijay Mallya, took to social media to extend his congratulations.

“Heartiest congratulations to the RCB Women’s Team for winning the WPL. It would be a fantastic double if the RCB Men’s Team won the IPL which is long overdue. Good Luck,” Mallya posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Reflecting on the victory, RCB women’s team captain Smriti Mandhana credited the solid support from the management, especially after their previous season’s disappointment, for their success. She emphasized the lessons learned from the 2023 campaign, which paved the way for their triumphant performance in the final against the Delhi Capitals, securing an eight-wicket victory.

By clinching the WPL title, RCB’s women’s team achieved what their male counterparts couldn’t accomplish in 16 years. Mandhana expressed gratitude to the franchise’s loyal fanbase for their unwavering support throughout their journey.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Mandhana highlighted the team’s resilience and determination, acknowledging the ups and downs they faced but ultimately prevailed with a remarkable victory. She praised the management for their backing and emphasized the importance of peaking at the right time in such tournaments.

The spin duo of Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux played pivotal roles in bowling out DC for 113, while Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Elysse Perry’s contributions with the bat ensured RCB’s victory with three balls to spare.
