Hospital in Delhi hands over ‘dead’ twins to family

The members of the family and relatives made protests at the “Max Hospital” on Friday, demanding severe action against the carelessness of the hospital. The baby was handed over to the parents in a plastic bag was found to be alive just minutes before he was to be buried.
According to reports, the hospital informed the parents about one baby being born still, while the other one is critical and needs months of treatment in the nursery. While the parents already paid the installment amount and were apparently discussing all options for keeping the baby on ventilator support, when suddenly the parents were told the second baby also died.
According to hospital management, the 22-week premature baby was handed over without any sign of life, and also the doctor in charge and responsible for the shameful negligence had been sent on leave. The hospital gave a statement, that they are shaken and concerned at this rare incident. We have initiated an inquiry, pending with the concerned doctor. They are already in touch with the parents of the baby and are providing all the needed support, the statement said.
A case has been registered under section 308 of IPC which leads cases relating to attempt to commit culpable homicide and can lead to 7 years’ imprisonment. While the Delhi government ordered an investigation into the criminal negligence with Kejriwal promising stern action.
