World Air Quality Report 2023: Hyderabad Shows Improvement

Date:

Over four years, from 2019 to 2023, Hyderabad has witnessed a notable enhancement in its air quality, as reported in the World Air Quality Report 2023. The city showcased a positive trend in air quality improvement throughout this period, with a decline in PM10 concentrations from 101 micrograms per cubic meter in 2019-20 to 83 micrograms per cubic meter in 2023-24.

Similarly, surrounding areas like Patancheru and Sangareddy also experienced reductions in PM10 concentrations, while Nalgonda’s values exhibited fluctuations. This data, analyzed based on PM2.5 concentration standards, was released by IQAir, a Swiss-based air quality technology company, adhering to WHO guidelines.

Despite India being ranked as the third most air-polluted country, Hyderabad’s efforts towards air quality improvement have shown promising results, with government initiatives focusing on reducing particulate matter concentrations and implementing measures such as road maintenance, promoting electric vehicles, and monitoring unauthorized dumping to further enhance air quality in the region.
