I envision an AI instructor for 8 billion people on Earth
Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella has expressed his vision for a future where every person on Earth, all 8 billion people, can benefit from AI technology. In an interview with Wired, Nadella emphasized the democratization of AI and shared an inspiring example from India where a rural farmer used a text-to-speech system to access information about a subsidy program.
The system was trained on Indian government documents, allowing it to automatically fill out forms for the farmer in a different language. Nadella’s dream is for everyone to have access to AI tutors, AI doctors, programmers, and consultants.
While some are concerned about the potential risks and challenges associated with artificial general intelligence (AGI), Nadella is more focused on the positive impact and benefits that AI can bring to humanity.
He draws parallels to the industrial revolution and hopes that the benefits of AI can reach people around the world, including those in underserved regions. Rather than advocating for the control or cessation of AI experiments, Nadella believes in accelerating efforts to align AI models with the real world and its diverse needs. He emphasizes the importance of aligning AI technology directly with the world instead of relying solely on simulations.
