IMAX Comeback in Hyderabad Hits a Roadblock—Here’s What Happened
The excitement among Telugu movie lovers in Hyderabad was palpable when news broke that IMAX would be making a return to the city. The buzz started when Asian Cinemas’ head, Suniel Narang, recently hinted that the IMAX experience could be back within the next two years.
This announcement rekindled a decade-long dream for many cinephiles in the region who had been longing to enjoy big-screen spectacles the way they were meant to be seen.
IMAX India Releases Official Clarification
However, that joy was short-lived. Preetham Daniel, Vice President of IMAX Corporation (India), issued an official clarification that dismissed the excitement as premature.
“The recent reports that IMAX is partnering with Asian Cinemas to bring an IMAX location to Hyderabad are entirely false,” Daniel said in his statement.
“While IMAX is in conversation with multiple exhibitors about bringing IMAX to Hyderabad, no agreement is currently in place. IMAX is eager to expand into Hyderabad and will continue to proactively seek opportunities to do so.”
Fans Disappointed but Hopeful
This news has understandably led to disappointment among fans, many of whom took to social media to express their frustration and disbelief. After all, the Hyderabad IMAX theater was once a marquee destination for major Hollywood and Tollywood releases before it shut down years ago.
While the dream remains on hold, it’s not entirely dead. IMAX’s statement emphasizes their interest in returning to Hyderabad, which means fans still have reason to keep their hopes alive.
