IND vs ENG 1st ODI ended with a dominant performance from Team India as Shubman Gill’s side defeated England by six wickets at Edgbaston. The victory gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series and ended England’s 12-year unbeaten ODI run at the Birmingham venue.

Batting first, England were bowled out for 258 after a major middle-order collapse. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 76, while Liam Dawson scored 68 to help the hosts recover. Axar Patel starred with the ball for India, taking four wickets for 62 runs.

IND vs ENG 1st ODI Creates New Records

Chasing 259, captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a brilliant 80 before retiring hurt with cramps. Axar Patel then produced an excellent all-round performance, scoring an unbeaten 57, while Washington Sundar remained not out on 52.

Axar and Washington added an unbeaten 100-plus partnership as India reached 262 for four with 28 balls remaining. Axar’s four-wicket haul and unbeaten half-century earned him the Player of the Match award.

The IND vs ENG 1st ODI was not just another series victory for India. Gill’s captaincy, Axar’s all-round brilliance and Washington Sundar’s calm finish helped Team India create a memorable moment at Edgbaston.

With India taking a 1-0 lead, attention now turns to the remaining two ODIs. The IND vs ENG 1st ODI victory has given Team India the perfect start as they continue their preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
