Australia and India were both fined for their slow over-rates.
Australia and India have been fined for slow over rates during the ICC World Test Championship Final held at The Oval. India received a 100% fine for their match fee, while Australia was fined 80% of their match fee for breaching Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The sanctions were imposed by match referee Richie Richardson after India was found to be five overs short of the target and Australia four overs short. Both captains, Rohit Sharma, and Pat Cummins, pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanctions without the need for formal hearings.
Additionally, Indian opener Shubman Gill will face a sanction and has received one demerit point for breaching Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct, relating to “public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an international match.
” Gill accepted the sanction, which was his first offense in a 24-month period, and no formal hearing was required. Gill’s criticism came after his dismissal in the second innings of the match, questioning the umpiring decision on social media. The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Richard Kettleborough, and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena.
