India penalized for slow-over rate in fourth T20I

Date:

India has been penalized for keeping a slow over-rate in the fourth T20I at Wellington. Virat Kohli’s team was found to be two overs short of the target even after taking time allowances into consideration.

The match had gone down right to the wire, with the visitors emerging winners in yet another Super Over finish. Defending 165, India turned things around right at the very end as New Zealand bungled the chase under pressure.

On-field umpires Chris Brown and Shaun Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra leveled the charges, which were ratified by match referee Chris Broad.

Subsequently, the Indian players were fined 40 percent of their match-fees – 20 percent for each over in keeping with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. Captain Virat Kohli accepted the sanction so there was no need for a formal hearing.
