India Clinches 20th Gold at Asian Games as Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu Triumph in Squash Mixed Doubles Final.
The Indian squash duo of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu secured another gold medal for India by winning the mixed doubles final at the Asian Games. They faced a tough challenge from the Malaysian pair, Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal, ultimately emerging victorious in straight games, with scores of 11-10, 11-10.
In the first game, Malaysia initially had the advantage, but Nation staged a comeback, narrowly winning by one point, 11-10. The second game saw India leading 9-3 before Malaysia caught up. However, Sandhu’s crucial points ensured Nation’s victory and their 20th gold medal at the Asian Games.
The Sports Authority of India celebrated this achievement on their social media platform, praising the dynamic mixed doubles team of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu.
In the semifinals, Dipika and Harinder had already secured their spot in the final by defeating the Hong Kong duo of Lee Ka Yi and Wong Chi Him with a score of 2-1. Despite losing the first set 7-11, they displayed resilience and determination, winning the second set 11-7 convincingly. In the third set, Nation faced a close competition but ultimately emerged as the victors with a score of 11-9.
Earlier, Saurav Ghosal ensured the nation’s presence in another squash medal event by defeating Hong Kong’s Chi Hin Henry Leung 3-0 in the men’s singles squash semifinal. Ghosal’s remarkable performance secured a place in the final and guaranteed a nation a medal in the men’s singles category.
Saurav Ghosal also played a pivotal role in India’s gold medal-winning performance against arch-rivals Pakistan in the men’s team squash final. Nation triumphed over Pakistan with a score of 2-1 to secure the gold medal in the men’s team event.
