British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has expressed his confidence in the UK-India partnership, calling it a defining one for the current era. His remarks come ahead of the annual UK-India Week 2023, which aims to strengthen the partnership between the two countries by focusing on various sectors including politics, trade, and business.
Sunak sees the event as a catalyst for establishing new trade ties and lasting collaborations, emphasizing its significance in the bilateral calendar of both nations. The ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and the 2030 Roadmap further demonstrate Sunak’s ambition to elevate UK-India ties.
The British government estimates that a trade deal could significantly boost both countries’ GDP by 2035. Sunak, who previously served as Chancellor, highlighted the importance of a partnership of equals and the need for the UK to earn its place at the table with India, one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies.
The UK-India Week 2023 will feature various political and business figures from both nations, and its opening address will be delivered by opposition Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.
