India lost big-time to South Africa in the first Test match! Virat Kohli scored a good fifty, but the rest of the Indian batsmen just couldn’t handle the South African bowlers. They got bundled out for just 131 runs in their second innings after South Africa had piled on a massive score of 408!
South Africa started the game strong, with their top batsman Elgar scoring a whopping 185 runs. Another player, Jansen, also hit an unbeaten 84. These two big scores helped South Africa build a huge lead of over 160 runs.
When India came out to bat in the second innings, hoping to chase down the target, they just crumbled! The South African fast bowlers, especially Burger, Rabada, and Jansen, were too good for them. They kept taking wickets, and India couldn’t even reach half the target before getting bowled out.
So, South Africa won the match easily by an “innings and 32 runs” margin. That means they won by a whole innings, plus another 32 runs on top! It was a disappointing start for India, but they’ll have to regroup and come back stronger in the next Test.
