The fabric care market in India will expand by 7%
The Indian fabric care market is expected to achieve a compounded annual growth rate of over 7%, outpacing the anticipated global laundry care market growth of 4.28% between 2022 and 2027, as indicated by Mintel.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers have displayed greater consciousness about the products they use, including household sanitizers and fragrances, as revealed by Mintel’s consumer research involving over 3,000 respondents in India.
Traditionally, India leaned towards handwashing, with powder detergents being the most prevalent category. However, with evolving cleaning practices and an inclination towards convenience, there is a notable shift in the fabric care and wash industry. This transformation is evident through increased washing machine adoption and the growing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable laundry care solutions.
The emphasis on fragrances is also noteworthy in the evolving consumer preferences. Consumers are not just seeking clean clothes; they are looking for a sensory experience that uplifts their mood and establishes an emotional connection with the brand.
Gunjan Taneja, Founder and Head of Marketing at UClean, a laundry and dry-cleaning chain, highlighted the increasing significance of fragrance and environmental considerations in consumers’ laundry care choices. She noted that people are becoming more environmentally conscious and are willing to invest in high-quality, eco-friendly liquid detergents, even if they come at a higher cost.
A KPMG study also underscored consumers’ growing preference for sustainable cleaning solutions, with 76% of respondents basing their purchasing decisions on a company’s environmental efforts.
