IPL 2024 SRH Leadership Change: Cummins Takes Charge

Date:

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made a significant announcement via their social media channels, revealing that Australian cricketer Pat Cummins will lead the team for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This decision comes after the team’s previous captain, Aiden Markram, struggled to achieve notable success, particularly finishing at the bottom of the points table in IPL 2023.

Pat Cummins, renowned for his stellar performances in international cricket, had an exceptional 2023, which significantly bolstered his credentials as a leader. Notably, he led Australia to victory in the World Test Championship, retained the Ashes in England, and secured a record sixth Men’s ODI World Cup title. This will mark Cummins’ debut as a captain in the IPL and reunites him with Daniel Vettori, the new head coach of SRH.

The appointment of Cummins makes him the second Australian to captain SRH, following in the footsteps of David Warner, who previously led the franchise for 67 matches from 2015 to 2021. Cummins was acquired by SRH for a staggering Rs 20.5 crore in last year’s IPL auction, making him one of the most expensive players in the league’s history. Previously, Cummins has represented Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, the winners of IPL 2016, are set to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign on March 23 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. Following this, they will play their first home match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 27 against the Mumbai Indians.
