Karthik expressed his preference for K.S. Bharat as India’s wicketkeeper
Dinesh Karthik, a veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, has expressed his preference for K.S. Bharat as India’s wicketkeeper in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia. Karthik believes that his extensive experience in first-class cricket gives him an edge over other contenders.
he previously served as India’s wicketkeeper in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, while Rishabh Pant was recovering from injuries. Karthik acknowledges that Bharat had mixed results with both bat and gloves in that series, but still considers him a suitable choice for the WTC Final.
Another option for the wicketkeeper position is Ishan Kishan, who was included in the squad after K.L. Rahul’s injury. However, Karthik believes that it might be too much to ask for Kishan to make his Test debut in such an important match. He also emphasizes his superior wicketkeeping skills as a factor in his favor.
Bharat has previously been a member of the India A squad and has played in 90 first-class matches, while Kishan has appeared in 48 such matches.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, on the other hand, suggests that the choice of wicketkeeper would depend on the conditions at The Oval. He considers both Bharat and Kishan as viable options and highlights the importance of assessing their batting capabilities and the need for a solid middle order.
Ultimately, the decision will be made by the team management, taking into account various factors such as form, team composition, and playing conditions.
