Kyle Jamieson, the Auckland pacer, received his maiden Test call-up to the New Zealand side on Monday (December 16) as he was included in the side for the ongoing Australia series as a replacement for the injured Lockie Ferguson.
The 6-feet and 6-inch pacer will play for the Aces in their upcoming Super Smash match against Canterbury Kings before leaving for Melbourne on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Jamieson has played 25 first-class matches, picking 72 wickets at an average of 27.93. He even represented New Zealand A last month against England in Whangarei last month. Even as his figures aren’t overly impressive, he has showcased a few efforts of destructive bowling as well as handy lower-order batting.
While New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said that he was ‘gutted’ for Lockie Ferguson who suffered a grade two calf strain and has been ruled out of the tournament, he also said that it is a fine opportunity for the tall Jamieson to impress.
Lockie, who had made his Test debut in Perth, managed to bowl only 11 overs in the match before being ruled out.
“We’re all gutted for Lockie,” he added. “He’d worked hard to earn his Test debut and to have it cruelly halted by injury was truly unlucky.”
