Lal Salaam OTT Release: Rajinikanth’s Film Lands on Sun NXT with Extra Scenes, But Still Falls Short
Over a year after its theatrical debut, Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam has quietly made its way to the digital space. Now streaming on Sun NXT, the film arrives in Tamil only with an extended version that includes additional scenes — a move likely aimed at reviving interest in the underperforming drama.
Starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth, with a special appearance by Rajinikanth, Lal Salaam had all the makings of a blockbuster: a socially charged narrative, AR Rahman’s music, and backing from Lyca Productions. Yet, it failed to strike a chord with audiences during its theatrical run due to weak storytelling and a lack of emotional depth.
Interestingly, while the Tamil version is available on OTT, the Telugu version, which also had a theatrical release, is conspicuously missing, and there has been no official update on when it will be added to the platform.
Even the film’s Hindi TV premiere went largely unnoticed, adding to concerns that this delayed digital drop may face the same fate. While the extended cut promises more screen time, it’s uncertain whether the extra footage improves the narrative or simply lengthens an already sluggish experience.
The ensemble cast includes Senthil, Jeevitha, Thambi Ramaiah, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, and Thangadurai, but even their efforts couldn’t lift the film’s impact.
As Lal Salaam quietly begins its second innings online, the big question is
Will this late OTT release reignite viewer interest, or has the moment already passed?
