Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana Likely to Miss Asia Cup Final Against India:
Sri Lanka’s high-performing bowler, Maheesh Theekshana, is highly likely to be absent from the Asia Cup final against India, which is scheduled for Sunday. Prof. Arjuna de Silva, the head of the medical panel for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), confirmed that the 23-year-old right-arm off-spinner is doubtful for the final due to a hamstring injury.
He noted that although the team management might have considered risking his participation in Sunday’s match, it’s more prudent to rest him, especially with the World Cup on the horizon. The priority is to ensure his fitness for the upcoming World Cup. Explaining the potential reasons behind his injury, Professor Arjuna de Silva pointed out that Theekshana has been engaged in continuous cricketing activities.
He has been part of various tournaments, including the IPL, LPL, home matches against Afghanistan, qualifying matches in Zimbabwe, and the T20i squad during the New Zealand tour earlier this year. Theekshana has an impressive record, having taken 83 wickets across all three formats of the game.
On the morning before the Asia Cup final, all 17 team members participated in their final practice game at the R. Premadasa Stadium, with Theekshana accompanied by the team physio, as confirmed by sources at the hotel. Additionally, Prof. Arjuna de Silva mentioned that injured players who are not currently part of the ongoing Asia Cup are making progress in their recovery and have begun their training.
