Delhi Liquor Case: K. Kavitha’s Judicial Custody Extended

Date:

BRS MLC K. Kavitha Sent to Judicial Custody Till April 9

A court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC, K. Kavitha, until April 9 in connection with the money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi liquor case.

The accused was presented before Special Judge Kaweri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court after her three-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody expired. The probe agency sought judicial custody, stating that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary.

Interim Bail Plea Deferred, Next Hearing on April 1

Kavitha’s counsel, Advocate Nitesh Rana, sought interim bail due to her son’s exams, but the court deferred the plea to April 1.

ED Accusations and Kavitha’s Defence

ED had arrested Kavitha on March 15, alleging her involvement in kickbacks worth Rs 100 crore and establishing a money laundering ecosystem through M/s Indo Spirits. Despite multiple opportunities, ED claimed Kavitha did not cooperate fully and gave evasive replies during interrogation.

Allegations of Evidence Destruction and Summoning of Witnesses

The agency accused Kavitha of destroying evidence and summoned her husband and house help for digital data extraction. Additionally, two persons who provided statements against her were summoned for confrontation.

Legal Wrangling

Earlier, senior advocate Vikram Chaudhary criticized the ED for Kavitha’s arrest, citing a Supreme Court order. However, the ED defended its actions, asserting sufficient evidence and witness statements against Kavitha.

Ongoing Investigation

During the custody period, the ED analyzed data from Kavitha’s mobile phone and investigated her nephew’s involvement in the utilization of proceeds of crime from Indo Spirits. The agency continues to probe the matter diligently.

Kavitha’s extended judicial custody underscores the seriousness of the allegations against her. The legal battle intensifies as both sides present their arguments before the court.
