Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra – Malayalam Cinema’s First Female Superhero Film Hits Screens Amid IMAX Controversy
Malayalam cinema is taking a bold step forward with its first-ever female superhero film, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, which is releasing today as a grand Onam festive treat. Starring the talented Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role, the film is produced by Dulquer Salmaan under his banner Wayfarer Films, making it one of the most ambitious pan-Indian projects from Mollywood.
However, just hours before its global release, the movie faced an unexpected setback. IMAX Vice President Preetham Daniel clarified on X that Lokah is not releasing in IMAX, and thanked Wayfarer Films for quickly removing the promotional post that had incorrectly mentioned an IMAX release.
This incident brings attention to a recurring issue — the misuse of the IMAX logo without official approval. Such actions can attract strict penalties, as seen recently when the makers of Rajinikanth’s Coolie were fined for unauthorized IMAX announcements.
So far, in Malayalam cinema, only Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Empuraan has been officially confirmed for an IMAX release.
Despite the hiccup, the buzz around Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra remains strong, with fans eager to witness Kalyani Priyadarshan’s superhero avatar on the big screen.
