Tamil cinema’s star director Lokesh Kanagaraj is back in action, not with just one film — but with a full-fledged expansion of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
Currently, Lokesh has completed the shoot of his most-awaited action entertainer — Coolie, starring none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. Produced by Sun Pictures’ Kalanidhi Maran, the film will hit the screens on August 14. The recently released trailer has set the internet ablaze, and with a stellar ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and Upendra, Coolie promises to be a grand theatrical experience.
But the Lokesh storm doesn’t stop there.
After the release of Coolie, Lokesh will begin shooting for Khaidi 2 — the highly anticipated sequel to his 2019 cult hit Khaidi, which starred Karthi and laid the foundation for the LCU. The sequel is expected to be even bigger, with Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan reportedly playing a key role as part of the extended LCU narrative.
In addition, Lokesh is producing a new film titled Benz, directed by Bhagyaraj Kannan and starring Raghava Lawrence in the lead role. Interestingly, Benz will also be connected to the LCU — further weaving Lokesh’s films into a cohesive cinematic universe. Lokesh revealed in an interview that a 30–35 page screenplay is already ready, and he is gearing up to take the film on the floors soon.
From delivering iconic thrillers to creating a cinematic universe that bridges superstars and timelines, Lokesh Kanagaraj is building the MCU of Tamil cinema — the LCU.
