Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recorded a historic win against Punjab Kings in an IPL 2023 match at the IS Bindra Stadium, thanks to attacking fifties from Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Mayers. LSG got off to a flying start with Mayers smashing 54 runs off 24 balls. Then Stoinis and Ayush Badoni put up an 89-run partnership, stabilizing LSG’s position in the middle overs.
Nicholas Pooran’s 19-ball 45 quickfire further boosted the score, helping LSG set a massive total of 257/5 on the board – the second-highest total in IPL history. The highest IPL total remains with Royal Challengers Bangalore, who scored 263/5 against Pune Warriors India in 2013.
Making his debut for PBKS, Gurnoor bowled an impressive opening over, conceding just two runs, and giving away just two runs. He could have gotten LSG skipper KL Rahul out early in the game, but Atharva Taide dropped a catch at point.
Mayers was in exceptional form and kept the pressure on the bowlers, smashing five boundaries and a huge six on a free hit in just three overs. However, Kagiso Rabada eventually broke the partnership by dismissing Rahul after conceding a six on the previous delivery.
LSG finished their innings with a flurry of runs, scoring five runs off the last two balls. In the end, LSG posted a mammoth total of 257/5 in 20 overs.
