Malaysia celebrates its 66th year of independence.

Malaysia celebrated its 66th Independence Day with various events, including parades, fireworks, and large gatherings, all focused on strengthening unity among the nation’s diverse population.

The celebrations began shortly after midnight on Wednesday, featuring patriotic songs and activities. The highlight was a parade in Putrajaya, led by King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on Thursday morning. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, cabinet members, and officials joined the king, while thousands of military and civilian personnel, along with dancers and performers, participated.

In a message to the people, Sultan Abdullah emphasized that unity is essential for harmony and the well-being of Malaysians and the country itself. He noted that this unity is crucial for the nation’s stability, prosperity, and resilience in the face of present and future challenges. Therefore, he stressed the shared responsibility of leaders and citizens to preserve and enhance the harmony and unity that has been achieved.

On August 31, 1957, the Federation of Malaya gained independence from British colonial rule.
