Glenn Maxwell, incipiently mentioned in both the T20I and ODI squads, will miss Australia’s forthcoming limited-overs tour of South Africa due to an elbow injury. He will be replaced by D’Arcy Short, CA confirmed on Wednesday (February 12).
Maxwell, who was running his wounded left elbow throughout the BBL, stated improved pain over the weekend, following which scans shown: some loose fragments of bone within his elbow joint. He will now undergo surgery and is supposed to be out for eight weeks. As a consequence, he might not play for the first half of the IPL.
This also suggests a notably delay to Maxwell’s expected international appearance since his mental health break late last year.
Maxwell’s loss is a blow to Australia, counting his magnificent form in the BBL. Although his side Melbourne Stars failed in the final, Maxwell himself relished good games scoring 398 runs at an average of 39.80, including three fifties.
Darcy Short was one of the four standby players originally selected for the tour of South Africa, where Australia will play three T20Is beginning February 21 followed by three ODIs. Marcus Stoinis, who was also amongst the standbys misses out again.
