Mexico’s need for additional labor in major infrastructure projects
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has announced a new initiative aimed at providing temporary work visas to Central Americans. The program is designed to address Mexico’s need for additional labor in major infrastructure projects, including the construction of a train route in the southeast Mayan region.
During a press conference at the National Palace, President Lopez Obrador expressed the need for more “manpower” to support these projects. He stated that he would present a program specifically for Central American citizens, offering them temporary work visas to participate in public projects. The aim is to enable these individuals to legally stay and work in the country for a temporary period.

President Lopez Obrador emphasized the demand for skilled workers such as welders and engineers in Mexico. The initiative is part of his administration’s broader efforts to address undocumented migration, particularly from Central America, and reduce the number of migrants attempting to reach the United States by crossing through Mexico.
As the United States has implemented stricter immigration policies, many migrants have found themselves stranded in Mexico. The temporary work visa program aims to provide an alternative avenue for Central American migrants, offering them legal opportunities to work and contribute to infrastructure projects.
