Mohit Suri Backs Sandeep Reddy Vanga: “I’m a Fan. People Just Overreact.”
Bollywood filmmaker Mohit Suri, known for his intense romantic thrillers like Malang, Ek Villain, and Half Girlfriend, has come out in full support of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, whose films often face backlash for their dark and emotionally intense narratives.
In a recent interview, Mohit stated, “I’m a fan of Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The controversy around his films is more about audience overreaction than the content itself.”
He drew parallels between Vanga’s storytelling style and that of iconic directors like Mahesh Bhatt and Ram Gopal Varma, who were known for pushing boundaries long before Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, or Animal.
“We’ve seen these kinds of stories before. People just didn’t label them controversial then,” said Mohit. He also emphasized that he found Kabir Singh emotionally more powerful than Arjun Reddy.
On Deepika Padukone’s Exit from Spirit
Addressing the buzz around Deepika Padukone stepping away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit, Mohit remained neutral but sensible:
“It’s up to each person how they want to work. No director wants to make an actor uncomfortable.”
He also brushed off the rumored creative differences and shift timing disputes as being blown out of proportion. “No one’s trying to be harsh. Everyone just wants to make a good film,” he clarified.
Mohit’s Focus is Now on Saiyaara
While the Vanga conversation created buzz, Mohit Suri is staying grounded and focused on his next film, Saiyaara—a romantic drama starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Set against the backdrop of music and ambition, Saiyaara releases July 18 and is already drawing praise for its soundtrack.
