Mominul Haque appointed Bangladesh Test captain

Date:

Mominul Haque will lead the Bangladesh Test side while Mahmudullah will captain the IT20 side for the series against India, BCB announced on Tuesday (October 29). The change in leadership was made after Shakib al Hasan was halted for two years by the ICC for failing to inform the corrupt approaches from a bookie.

The BCB also confirmed additional changes to T20I squad. Abu Hider Rony will make a return in place of injured Saifuddin while Mithun will replace Tamim Iqbal. Saifuddin sustained a recurring back injury.

Taijul Islam has been selected as a replacement for Shakib in the T20I team.

In the Test squad, Saif Hasan, 20-year-old, has earned his maiden call-up. The right-hand batsman has played 36 first-class matches and has made 2217 runs at an average of 46.18. Al Amin Hossain, who last represented a Test for Bangladesh in 2014, earns a spot in the squad. Ebadot Hossain was also included in the squad who was dumped after the series in New Zealand and Mustafizur Rahman, who returns in place of Taskin Ahmed.

Liton Das will be the first-choice wicketkeeper in the Test squad with Mushfiqur Rahim choosing to give up the role and to focus more on his batting.
