Media reports claim Nayanthara, Vignesh registered marriage six years ago

Even as the probe into whether Tamil cinema’s celebrity couple — actress Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan — had violated surrogacy laws to become parents of two baby boys born earlier this month, unconfirmed media reports claimed that the couple in an affidavit had submitted that they got married six years ago.

The reports claimed that in the affidavit submitted to the Tamil Nadu Health Department, the couple said that the surrogate mother who gave birth to the children was a relative of Nayanthara and that she was based out of Dubai.

The couple is also believed to have said that they got their marriage registered six years ago.

When Vignesh Shivan, whose grand wedding with Nayanthara on June 9 this year made headlines, announced on October 9 that Nayanthara and he had turned parents, it raised eyebrows. This is because one of the conditions for a couple to avail of surrogacy is that they must have been married for five years.

Now this latest piece of information, if found factual, is bound to answer a lot of questions that were raised at the time of the birth of the twins.

“I can say that he is a sort of a feminist the way he has written characters for all of us. So well-blended! This is a film where you are basically blending a spy thriller with a social cause. It is so difficult but he has done it and he has done such a great job.

“I am so happy I got to work with you Mithran and I really look forward to your future films I hope that I get to work with you real soon. I think you are brilliant.”

The film, which is to hit screens on October 21, features Karthi in double action — one as a spy and another as a police officer crazy about publicity.

Posting the picture of a rumor being spread, Vishnu Manchu on his timeline called it ‘fake news.

The actor, according to rumors being spread, had allegedly said that he felt cheated by the makers of ‘Adipurush’ and actor Prabhas.

“You got to prepare the audience. The visuals of the Adipurush teaser look cartoonish. If you don’t prepare and cheat the audience, then this is the reaction you will get, ” memes put out by rumor mongers quoted the actor as having said.

Trashing all these rumors, actor Vishnu Manchu quoted a rumor meme and said, “Fake News! As expected, some item raja trying to spread negative news just before the ‘Ginna’ release! I want nothing but the best for my darling brother Prabhas.”

A one-liner on an actor turning spy got me interested in ‘Sardar’, says Karthi

Actor Karthi, who plays the lead in director P. S. Mithran’s upcoming spy thriller, ‘Sardar’, has disclosed that it was director P. S. Mithran’s single-line narration on how the army chose to recruit a theatre artiste and turn him into a spy that got him hooked onto the project.

Speaking at the trailer launch event of the film on Friday, actor Karthi said: “When producer Lakshman made me meet director P. S. Mithran, the latter casually narrated a one-liner to me. Mithran told me that in the eighties when the Indian government was looking to set up a team of spies, they tried to train some of those in the military to act.

“However, despite a lot of effort, those in the military couldn’t act. That was when the think tank thought, ‘Why should we strain so much? Why should we not take a theatre actor and put him in the military?’ So, a theatre artiste was recruited and a team trained him and sent him to Pakistan.

“That idea itself was stunning. A theatre artiste being converted into a spy. It was interesting. On learning about this, I asked Mithran to write the script. After a couple of revisions, Mithran came back and told me that the script had taken shape but that it had changed into a double-action script. Mithran said, ‘This story requires double action. Otherwise, it can’t be done.’ So, that was how ‘Sardar’ began.”

The film, which is to hit screens on October 21, features Karthi in double action – one as a spy and another as a police officer crazy about publicity.

Apart from Karthi, the film also features Chunkey Pandey, Laila, Rajisha Vijayan, and Raashi Khanna among others.

Princess Diana cuts a lonely figure in ‘The Crown’ Season 5 first look

The first look of ‘The Crown’ Season 5 featuring a brand new cast has been revealed by streaming giant Netflix.

The stills show a lonely-looking Princess Diana played by Elizabeth Debicki, taking over from Emma Corrin in the previous season, clad in a sparkly gown as she heads into a glamorous evening engagement, her shoulders hunched and head bowed, reports Variety.

In another image, Prince Charles played by Dominic West, who replaces Josh O’Connor from seasons 3 and 4 and his mistress Camilla Parker Bowles played by Olivia Williams, who steps into Emerald Fennell’s shoes are beaming while huddling together outdoors as they appear to watch a fireworks display.

In another, happier, photograph, however, Diana and Charles are pictured together on a speedboat vacationing with their young sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

“That’s the amazing thing about playing these people at this time because, in the journey of ‘The Crown’ so far out of all the seasons, this is the most visual content we have of the Royal Family,” Debicki told Netflix’s fansite Tudum, who first revealed the images.

“In the ’90s, everything had started to be filmed, and also it was the birth of the 24-hour news cycle so there’s just this incredible amount of content that we have access to. Diana was the most photographed person in the world at that time. As an actor, you open the portal and this huge tsunami of information comes at you. I happily swam around in it.”

West added: “I think people understand because the cast has changed every two seasons, that this is not an imitation. This is an evoking of a character. That’s really where the show lives: in the imagined conversations of their private life, which is something that no one knows.”

“I think that’s what it gets a lot of criticism for. How can you know what they talk about in their private lives? The obvious answer is we don’t, but we have an incredible writer, a dramatist, who imagines based on exhaustive research, and that’s really part of the fascination of the show.”

There is also a shot of Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II herself, apparently in Scotland, alongside her husband Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce), with both wearing signature red tartan. Staunton takes over the role of monarch and matriarch from Olivia Colman, who played Her Majesty in the third and fourth seasons of the show, while Pryce replaces Tobias Menzies.

In the series’ first two seasons, Claire Foy played a young Queen in the first two decades of her reign while Matt Smith played Prince Philip.

One of the conceits of ‘The Crown’ is that the cast is replaced every two seasons to mark the passing of time. Each season covers approximately one decade of the royal family’s life.

Season 5, which will be released in one go on Netflix on November 9, will take viewers through the late 1980s and early 1990s, during one of the royal family’s most difficult decades.

1992, which the Queen famously described as her “annus horribilis” saw three of her four children separate or divorce their spouses while Windsor Castle suffered from a catastrophic fire.

‘The Crown’ is currently shooting its sixth and purportedly final season, which is believed to cover Diana’s death in 1997.

‘Kantara’ hitmaker Rishab Shetty on how he juggled acting with direction

With the Kannada movie ‘Kantara’ scoring big at the box office and taking other markets by storm, the southern film industry continues its winning streak in the pan-India market. But what sets ‘Kantara’ apart from other recent southern blockbusters like ‘Pushpa’ or ‘RRR’, is its refreshing take on the age-old conflict between man and nature.

“The human-nature conflict is present all over the world. This conflict is present ever since humans appeared on the scene. This is what I set out to tell,” the movie’s director and lead actor Rishab Shetty told to media.

After bringing Kannada audiences in droves to theatres, ‘Kantara’ is repeating its success story in other languages too. Rishab Shetty confessed that while he knew he had a winner on his hands, he definitely did not anticipate the scale of success it clocked.

“I have always strongly believed that the more local we go, the more rooted our stories are, the more universal they become.”

Interestingly, the story of the movie has its genesis in a real-life incident that happened thirty years ago in his hometown. Shetty stumbled upon the seed of his story in the course of a random conversation he had about organic farming with his friend during the Covid lockdown. Locking the subject immediately, he delved into his own memories from his younger days, and ‘Kantara’ was born.

“In the coastal Karnataka region, agricultural land is not merely land, it involves divinity. Every aspect of life is associated with that earth. I looked at agricultural land as a bridge between man, god, and beliefs. I felt that it’s also important to tell the outside world about our culture and traditions,” Rishab explained.

The movie is also from the Hombale Films banner which has produced the hugely successful KGF series, starring Yash.

After making his presence felt with interesting movies made on modest budgets, Rishab Shetty is happy that ‘Kantara’ which was made on a relatively high budget has made its mark at the box office.

But acting and directing the movie certainly put him under pressure, he confessed.
“Directing a scene and jumping in to enact my role was certainly tough. But I never let the others sense it. Looking back I don’t think I can go through it again.”
