Sunny Leone calls cheating charge ‘slanderous’ and ‘deeply hurtful’

Sunny Leone has refuted cheating claims leveled against her, saying that half-baked information is as dangerous as misreporting.  On her part, she has alleged a lack of timely payment in the concerned deal.

Last week, Sunny was questioned by Kerala Police at a private resort in Thiruvananthapuram. The interrogation was conducted following a complaint filed by an events manager in Kochi in an alleged cheating case.

R. Shiyas, who conducts events in and around Kochi, had filed a complaint with the Kerala DGP alleging that Sunny had taken Rs 29 lakh from him while promising to attend various inaugural functions in the state but failed to do so. The case is related to a 2019 event.

She has now accused the events organizer of sharing incorrect information and hopes that the law will take its course.

“Half information is as dangerous as misreporting.  And this is yet another case of the same. I want to set the record straight,” Sunny said.

“As an artist, work is worship for me. I was nothing but gracious, understanding even moving my schedule multiple times over the organizers. But they wouldn’t commit to a set date. It is customary that to lock an actor’s time, an advance has to be paid upfront, which wasn’t done till the nth hour,” she continued.

There’s absolutely no chance that if I have set a date and time for an event, I wouldn’t show up,” Sunny added.

“But due to a lack of timely payment from their end coupled with the fact that they dilly-dallied on finalizing the date, I bowed out. I have other commitments in Poovar. These are testing times and we have been shooting round the clock, putting ourselves at risk, to make sure the industry is back on its feet. Such slanderous claims and unethical behavior on part of the event co-ordinators are deeply hurtful and unsolicited. I have already given the statement to the investigating officers and they are investigating the co-ordinators as well. Let the law take its course,” she further said.

Sunny is currently in Thiruvananthapuram district, where she is shooting for the new season of “MTV Splitsvilla”.

According to a source, the event “was constantly getting rescheduled, eventually clashing with her other work engagements”.

“Moreover, the fees never paid in its entirety. Rs 12.50 lakh, which was to be paid seven days before the event as per the agreement, is yet to be cleared. She, however, has graciously agreed to attend the event if it matches her schedule,” claimed the source.

The source also claimed that there were around five other celebrities who backed out from the event due to a similar experience with the organizers, which is currently being investigated.

US film, TV union bars Trump from future re-admission

The US Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has passed a resolution pre-emptively denying any potential re-admission applications by former President Donald Trump.

The resolution, passed in a Zoom video-conference on Saturday by the union’s National Board, cites the same concerns that prompted the initial disciplinary charges against Trump, “notably his antagonism of the union’s journalist members and disregard for the values and integrity of the union”, the SAG-AFTRA said in a statement issued on Sunday.

“Preventing Donald Trump from ever rejoining SAG-AFTRA is more than a symbolic step,” Xinhua news agency quoted SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris as saying in the statement.

“It is a resounding statement that threatening or inciting harm against fellow members will not be tolerated. An attack against one is an attack against all,” Carteris added.

Trump had been a member of the SAG-AFTRA since 1989.

The union represents approximately 160,000 film and television actors, journalists, artists, and other media professionals.

SAG-AFTRA’s national board, while meeting in a special session last month, found “probable cause” that Trump had “violated the union’s Constitution”, and ordered the matter to be heard by the union’s Disciplinary Committee.

The charges cite the former President’s role in inciting the deadly riots on the US Capitol on January 6, and his “sustaining a reckless campaign of misinformation aimed at discrediting and ultimately threatening the safety of journalists, many of whom are SAG-AFTRA members”.

On February 4, Trump announced his resignation from SAG-AFTRA, on the eve of a hearing set by the union’s disciplinary committee.

In a letter to the union, the former leader said that he knew the Disciplinary Committee of the union could revoke his membership, but “who cares”.

His action provoked a two-word response from the Union immediately: “Thank you.”

Shamita Shetty: You’re in an industry that says out of sight is out of mind

Actress Shamita Shetty claims that right from the beginning of her career she was never into quantity when it came to signing films.

Although she started with the multistarrer blockbuster “Mohabbatein” in 2000, Shamita saw only around a half a dozen releases in Bollywood that gave her acting roles over the last two decades, with her last big-screen outing being the 2007 dud “Cash”. Shamita, whose strongest role is perhaps in the 2005 Emraan Hashmi-starrer “Zeher”, had a couple of hit dance numbers like “Chori per chori” (“Saathiya”) and “Sharara sharara” (“Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai”) in her early years.

It took her 13 years since “Cash” to return with an acting role to the Hindi screen in the web series “Black Widows” last year. She now has Sushrut Jain’s “The Tenant” lined up.

“Right from the beginning quantity was really not something that I was attracted to and if I was, maybe staying relevant would have been an important factor for me. So, I don’t think I have really focussed on that,” Shamita told IANS.

“Unfortunately, you are in an industry that says out of sight is out of mind, and I think that happened with me so many times,” she added.

“Initially, maybe it affected me but now I really don’t care because there is always something or the other I am doing, and as long as I am happy as a person I think that is the most important thing for me. I am utilizing the time that is helping me learn something as an individual and a human being and helping me grow as a person. I am fine with it,” she declared.
