Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep roped in as fragrance brand ambassador

Kannada Superstar Kiccha Sudeep has signed as the new brand ambassador of men’s fragrance brand Denver. The actor will soon feature in a new TVC, released by the brand.

Through this association, the brand aims to explore and leverage the opportunities for fragrance brands in Karnataka and another southern market.

On the association, Sudeep said: “Since its inception, Denver has strived to be a niche player in a competitive market. It has been making consistent efforts to be unique, especially when it comes to relating and connecting with its young target audience. I am happy to be the face of a leading brand like this and excited to be a part of its growth trajectory. I look forward to a successful and long-standing synergy with Denver and hope to catapult this brand to new heights going forward.”

Saurabh Gupta, Director (Marketing & Sales) — Denver, said: “We have been fortunate enough to create deep inroads within Hindi-speaking and Telugu markets by associating with leading stars like Shahrukh Khan and Mahesh Babu as our brand ambassadors. This time also, we were on the lookout for an equally loved celebrity from Karnataka to further enhance our footprint within the region.”

He added: “We are delighted to announce that Kichcha Sudeepa, one of the most well-known superstars within the Sandalwood film industry, is now on board with Denver as its new brand ambassador. As an icon and an idol for the region’s youth, he stands out as the perfect fit for the brand. We are confident that this association will enable us to reach out to and capture a much larger audience, thus significantly accelerating our growth in Karnataka.”

Posthumous Padma Vibhushan for SP Balasubramanyam, Padma Bhushan for Chithra

The Government announced the list of Padma Awardees, which are among the some of the highest civilian honor, on Republic Day eve.

Although Bollywood has no recipients this year, late playback legend SP Balasubramanyam has been honored posthumously with Padma Vibhushan. He is the only name from the entertainment industry among seven names who are recipients of the second-highest civil honor.

Carnatic singer Chithra has been awarded Padma Bhushan, the third-highest honor while singer Bombay Jayashri Ramnath has been awarded Padma Shri.

Although the late Balasubramanyam is best known for his singing, he was a multi-faceted talent who made his mark as an actor, anchor, composer, and film producer, too. He worked predominantly in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam film industries.

He has won six National Awards as Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages — mHindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

He has been a recipient of Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011.

On September 25, 2020, Balasubramanyam died in Chennai after being hospitalized for more than a month following Covid complications.

Bigg Boss 14: Desperate tricks that have backfired

If ever there were a season when Bigg Boss went all wrong, it has to be the ongoing season 14. There is only one way the current season will be remembered in the history of the show — season 14 will be recalled as one that never really had the script to regale, and also one of the most boring ever.

As we move into the final phase of the show, the makers seem to have no clue yet about how to kickstart the Bigg Boss brand of entertainment. Over the past days, especially, they have tried everything from Sidharth Shukla to Rakhi Sawant and more to make the show seem interesting.

Yet, every talked-about contestant of the past who was brought in to rev up things, as well as every tried and tested trick of the past seasons, has fallen flat.

We look at a few desperate tricks that have ended up staid and have majorly backfired, making fans wonder if the makers should at all think about returning with a season 15 the next year if they don’t really have a solid reason to do so.

RANDOM, BORING ENTRIES AND EXITS:

In the 14th season, exits have become a matter of convenience. The way housemates exit and re-enter the house, it seems like Bigg Boss is a second show for all of them, which they come to participate in when there is nothing else to do outside the house!

Earlier, there used to be suspense about random exits. Evicted contestants would be taken to a “secret room”, where they would be staying for a few days and keeping constant vigilance on what other housemates were saying or doing behind their back. Random entries have allowed the makers to fill the house with riff-raff. Reasons for exits are far from convincing. That the whole trick of exits is more of a helpless measure than a strategy became obvious when Eijaz Khan, one of the strongest contestants this season, walked out to shoot a web series. Or Aly Goni, brought back without rhyme or reason left the show midway because of a task!

RAKHI SAWANT’S ANTICS:

Drama Queen Rakhi Sawant was brought in as a challenger to shake up things in a sleepy house. Over the past weeks, she has entered chudail mode, Ghajini mode, she has tattooed Abhinav’s name and taken all joked about her umpteen surgeries one the chin — sorry, nose and bust — and yet the impact is far from what she had managed as a contestant on season one.

Rakhi’s antics have quite frankly started seeming would have annoying and repetitive. The problem with Rakhi is she does not know where to end a gag. For instance, her gimmicky love story for Abhinav Shukla. It’s all quite okay to clown about it for a while, as she did. The trouble is she kept on dragging the gimmick — with ‘sindoor’ and tattoos and talk of having him as her sperm donor — so much so that all she manages now is to draw a yawn.

RAHUL VAIDYA’S RUBINA MANTRA:

When you can’t be the favorite in a game show, tag along with the favorite — that lets you hog the limelight. Rahul Vaidya does not like television actress Rubina Dilaik, but he sure knows associating with her some way or the other will only keep him in the news. In Bigg Boss 14, it seems Rahul fights with Rubina only to stay in the viewers’ minds. From day one to day 100, Rahul has mainly managed to stay in the news thanks to his fights with Rubina and her husband Abhinav Shukla. The trouble is no one is keeping the scores anymore. It’s become predictable.

NIKKI TAMBOLI LOSING GRIP:

Nikki Tamboli seemed one of the most exciting entries in the Bigg Boss 14 house initially. It turned out soon she has no idea how to play this game. Over the weeks, she has been loud and bizarre, and in the process overshadowed by the others. The thing about unnecessary aggression in behaviour is people stop caring about a point. That’s what has gone wrong with Nikki’s game plan. People have stopped being excited by her anymore.

After her re-entry, with Rakhi Sawant and Arshi Khan around, Nikki has been trying a new trick. She is pretending to be dumb and irritating. She has retained one thing from her original game plan — being loud. All of it is equally boring.

ABHINAV SHUKLA’S SHIRTLESS SALMAN STUNT:

Okay, Abhinav Shukla has been the dark horse in the show and no one knew he could be in the last few weeks of the show but how did he get there? Housemates have never minced words about being the shadow of his wife Rubina Dilaik and that her fans vote for him. The one thing that Abhinav has maintained in the house from day one of the show is roaming shirtless, flaunting his well-chiseled abs — just like the host Salman Khan does in his films. But from watching Salman go on the big screen to watching Abhinav rehash the machismo as he makes ‘paranthas’ in the kitchen is ludicrous, to say the least.

Kannada actress Jayashree Ramaiah commits ‘suicide’

Kannada actress Jayashree Ramaiah died by suicide on Monday at the Sandhya Kiran Old Age Home and Rehabilitation Centre on the city’s outskirts, the police said.

A case has been filed at the Madanayakanahalli police station in Bengaluru rural district. As per Jayashree’s close associates, she was suffering from depression and getting treated at the rehabilitation center.

Jayashree of ‘Bigg Boss’ fame was a model turned actress who made her acting debut with Imran Sardhariya’s ‘Uppu Huli Khara’ (salt, sour, and spice) in 2017.

Bengaluru Rural Additional Superintendent of police Lakshmi Ganesh confirmed to IANS that Jayashree had committed suicide by hanging.

The rehabilitation center’s website does not say anything as to what kind of rehabilitation it does but explains at length about its services pertaining to old-age services.

Its trustee Naveen Srinivas told IANS that he had ‘remained out of touch’ with the activities related to the center. “I have left it to doctors and professionals to manage the center. It would not be right on my part to speak about the center’s affairs,” he said, adding that the actress had ‘committed suicide’.

Jayashree was a contestant in ‘Bigg Boss’ Kannada season 3. Unlike many other participants, she did not get a lot of work after participating in the famous reality show. She was said to be unhappy over the absence of opportunities and had confided about it to her friends.

On July 22, 2020, Jayashree had posted on her Facebook wall: “I quit. Goodbye to this f***g world and depression,” alarming her fans. Her friends and colleagues reached out to her, urging her not to take any extreme step.

A few hours later, Jayashree removed the post and said: “I’m alright and safe!! Love you all.”

On July 25, Jayashree went live on Facebook and said: “I am not doing all of this for publicity’s sake. I am not expecting financial help from Sudeep sir as well. I am only expecting my death as I am unable to battle depression. I am financially strong but depressed. I have been going through a lot of personal issues. I have been betrayed since childhood and unable to overcome it (sic).”

At this juncture, Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep had stepped in and managed to console her.

The actress was better for some time, but after that, she isolated herself from her friends and family.

On Monday, she stopped responding to messages and phone calls from family and friends, who then contacted the center. Its officials checked on her and found her hanging.

Maha Governor has time for Kangana, not for kisan: Pawar

The Maharashtra Governor has time to meet Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, but not the thousands of “kisan brothers” who have assembled in Mumbai in huge numbers from all over the state, Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar said here on Monday.

Slamming Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari – without taking his name – Pawar said that the farmers were planning to go to Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to him after today’s rally at Azad Maidan.

“However, now I am told he (Governor) has gone away to Goa… We have never had such a Governor in the state’s entire history… He has time to meet Kangana, but our Kisan brothers who have come here from all over the state…” Pawar said sharply while addressing a huge farmers’ rally at Azad Maidan.

The NCP strongman said it was the “moral duty” of the Governor to at least remain and receive the people of the state who are the ‘annadaata’ (food-givers), but he did even show the courtesy to remain in Raj Bhavan to accept their memorandum.

Pawar’s acidic remarks came after he was informed that the Governor is not in the state and has reportedly gone to Goa, putting a question mark on the plans of the Samyukta Shetkari Kamgar Morcha leaders to submit the memorandum.

Varun and Natasha got married in Alibaug on Sunday in the presence of family and close friends.

TV star Aditya Redij on what drew him to role in ‘Bawara Dil’

Television actor Aditya Redij says his role of Shiva in the upcoming show Bawara Dil, drew him because it adds a wow factor to the script.

“It’s purely and solely Shiva’s character that added that wow factor for me to the script, and I agreed to be a part of the show. I know that I am going to love and enjoy every bit of playing Shiva,” Aditya, who was last seen on screen in the 2017 show Porus, told IANS.

“Shiva is a 26-year-old rebellious and self-made young man. He is hard and stern on the outside but has a soft heart and a child within him, which makes the character intriguing,” he added Aditya about the Colors show.

TV star Pooja Banerjee happy that the trend of music videos is back

TV star Pooja Banerjee, who recently shot for a music video titled Hum, feels it is a great thing that music videos are back in vogue.

“I feel it is really nice that again the trend of music videos is coming back. In the ’90s, we as kids used to listen to music videos. There was an era of Indie pop music. If you noticed most of the music videos of that era have TV actors featured whether it was Drashti Dhami and so many other people. Now it is like vice versa, they are already TV actors and are now doing music videos,” Pooja, who has been part of popular TV shows such as Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, told IANS.

Pooja features with actor Arun Shankar in the song, who has also directed the video. “He is a very sorted guy and knows what he wants as a director. He knows what has to be shown for a particular shot and has a lot of clarity in his mind. It was very nice to work with him. He is very calm and composed.”

Talking about the shoot of the video, Pooja reveals: “It was shot at a place which is a little far from Chandigarh and the location was a typical Punjabi one. It was beautiful but it was very cold out there. I was very comfortable except for the fact that it was too cold!”

Halsey cancels tour, says safety is priority

Singer Halsey has canceled her tour, which was originally scheduled to take place in 2020. She announced her decision on Twitter.

“Safety is the priority. I wish things were different. I love you. Dreaming of seeing your faces again,” the singer tweeted.

Halsey also attached a note to the tweet, and said: “Despite our absolute best efforts, there is no guarantee I’ll be able to tour the currently scheduled dates. I miss seeing all of you in the crowd every night more than anything, but I need to prioritize your health and safety. That being said, the Manic tour is now officially canceled. As much as we wanted to hold out hope that this tour could eventually happen, our priority is now getting your ticket money back to you immediately.”

“This tour was supposed to be my most unique yet for a number of reasons. I was really looking forward to sharing this chapter of my life with you in the ways I best know-how. But for now, I am dreaming of days where we can all be together again. I love you and we will adapt and grow and find new ways to connect despite the circumstances,” she added.

Halsey promised to “find new ways to connect despite the circumstances”.

The Manic tour had got 17 dates in early 2020 across Europe, before the pandemic caused a halt after a March 12 show in Manchester, England. She announced in May that the US dates would be pushed back to the summer of 2021.

Her rescheduled tour was to have begun on June 1 in Washington.
